About Paserene and Martin Smith

Martin was born into the world of winemaking and as a 3rd generation winegrower growing up in Paarl, South Africa surrounded by now famous winemakers it was all Martin wanted to do from a very young age

California would be the start of the journey, 5 years as winemaker at Cosentino Winery in Yountville, California and a further 5 years at Newton Winery in Saint Helena enabled Martin to develop into a renowned winemaker but his next role would take him back to South Africa and the world famous Vilafonté.   Six years at this prestigious winery gave Martin the basis to strike out on his own and establish Paserene.

The name Paserene comes from
.thelatin word Passeriformes, the order of "traveling and free" birds containing swifts and swallows.
