Napa Valley Wine Dinner with Iconic Stag's Leap Wine Cellars

Thursday 10th of November

7.30pm start

£129 per person

We are delighted to be hosting a dinner with the iconic Stag's Leap wine cellars and even more delighted that we will be showing the full range of wines that they offer including the Legendary S.L.V and Cask 23 Cabernets.

We will be matching eight wines to eight courses for £129 per person and whilst we appreciate that this a bit more than normal, the wines that we will be tasting on the night have a combined retail value of over £500 with the 2011 Cask 23 Cabernet Sauvignon in excess of £150 alone.  So we believe that this is excellent value for the amount of wines on show and of course the amount our delicious food!

About Stag's Leap

Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, notably known for being the winery that won the Cabernet Sauvignon competition in the  1976 Judgment of Pariswas founded in 1970, and is considered a Napa Valley first-growth estate.

In 2007  this iconic winery was purchased in a partnership between Ste. Michelle Wine Estates of Washington Valley, U.S.A and Marchesi Antinori of Tuscany, Italy.

We are delighted to be able to show all of Stag's Leaps wines and 2 extradordinary Rielsings from Ste. Michelle.

The wines we will try:

2014 Aveta Sauvignon Blanc, Stags Leap

While Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars began making Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc in the early 1980s, this 2015 release marks the third vintage of AVETA, named for a water goddess often depicted carrying fruit. It is a fitting moniker to express the vibrant fruit flavors and minerality of our Sauvignon Blanc which is crafted from fruit grown in the alluvial soils of our estate vineyards as well as other exceptional Napa Valley sites.

2013 Karia Chardonnay, Stags Leap

For the Roman poet Virgil, ARCADIA was celebrated as a place of pastoral simplicity, where inhabitants lived in close harmony with nature. Purchased in 1996 and named ARCADIA VINEYARD for its bucolic setting, this 128-acre parcel is located in the new Coombsville AVA in southern Napa Valley, at the foot of Mt. George. This vineyard produces Chardonnay in a style similar to classic Burgundian Chablis. From the first release with the 1998 vintage, this single-vineyard wine has become recognized for its alluring perfume, delicate fruit, vibrant minerality, and understated oak.

2013 Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon, Stag's Leap

ARTEMIS, named after the Greek goddess of the hunt, is a wine that truly reflects its name. It’s the culmination of our hunt for the finest grapes from Napa Valley which, when combined with estate-grown fruit, combine to create a Cabernet Sauvignon that expresses the regional character of Napa Valley with the signature style of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars. This approach results in a wine of lush fruit flavors balanced by extraordinary structure and elegance. Whereas our Estate Cabernet Sauvignons showcase the distinctive characteristics of each vineyard, ARTEMIS demonstrates how astute grape selection and skillful blending can create a wine that represents the sum of Napa Valley’s best Cabernet Sauvignon parts.

2011 Fay Cabernet Sauvignon, Stag's Leap

The FAY vineyard is where the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars story began. Established by pioneering grape grower Nathan Fay in 1961, it was the first planting of Cabernet Sauvignon in what is now the Stags Leap District. At the time, conventional wisdom maintained that the area was too cool for Cabernet Sauvignon. But tasting Nathan Fay’s homemade Cabernet in 1969 was a defining moment for the founder of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars. Here was land capable of producing a wine that could rival the best in the world. Within a year an adjoining ranch, now known as S.L.V., was purchased. And, in 1986, the winery purchased Nathan Fay’s vineyard and named it FAY in his honor

2011 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon

S.L.V., also known as Stag’s Leap Vineyards, is the winery’s first vineyard. Planted in 1970, this vineyard achieved international fame when three-year-old vines from the 1973 harvest produced a wine that stunned the wine world when it bested some of France’s greatest wines in a 1976 blind tasting known as the “Judgment of Paris.” Today, this history-making vineyard continues to produce wines with layers of complexity, spicy intensity and excellent structure — promising long life and ageability

2010 Cask 23 Cabernet Sauvignon, Stag's Leap

The story of CASK 23 began during the harvest of 1974. Back then, the winery enlisted the help of celebrated winemaker André Tchelistcheff. As he tasted through various lots of new wines from that year, one lot from S.L.V. was so beautiful and deliciously distinct the winery decided it should be bottled separately. It was named CASK 23 for the large wooden cask in which it was aged. Today, the wine is a blend of the most distinctive fruit from the S.L.V and FAY vineyards, resulting in a wine of extraordinary depth and richness balanced by restraint. Over the years, CASK 23 has become one of the most highly regarded and collected wines worldwide.

2014 Eroica Riesling, Chateau Ste Michelle
2013 Eroica Ice Wine, Chateau Ste Michelle

Launched in 1999, Eroica is a labor of love for two of the world’s great Riesling producers. One from the Old World, Dr. Loosen estate of Germany, and the other from the New World, Chateau Ste. Michelle of Washington state. An intermingling of Old and New World philosophies and techniques enables the crafting an of extraordinary Riesling from Washington state grapes. Named for Beethoven’s Third Symphony, Eroica refl ects not only its variety and site, but also its heritage: bold and forward from its Washington roots, elegant and refi ned from German inspiration.
